Hello everyone! Bet you weren't expecting this until tomorrow were you?! Well mwhaha I've snuck into your inboxes a day early, hope it made you happy to see me ping into your life unexpectedly : )

Once again I have raided my secret stash of amazing coffees for something special for y'all this month, the coffee was roasted + handed over to Royal Mail today Thursday April the 28th so should be with you very soon!

If you're in your second year of #SSSSS then this is a farm we've been to before and a producer we've had coffee from before, also if you're a regular webshop customer you'll also have seen coffees from here before. We started getting coffee from Alex Illescas thanks to my very good friend Raul Rodas who took me to meet him on 1 of my trips to Guatemala a few years ago, absolutely loved what Alex was doing and the coffee tasted amazing, Raul never lets me down!

Los Jocotales is located in a region that's well known for some of the most interesting coffees, as well as some of the most renowned coffees, in Guatemala, Antigua.

Coffee is grown and produced by Alex and he's growing it on his grandfather's farm. His grandfather has owned the farm for just over 50 years, working the land and selling the cherry along as a commodity coffee because they have no mill with which to process their own coffee. The farm is located at 1,400 metres above sea level in Ciudad Vieja.

Alex had an idea that he wanted to produce amazing, interesting and challenging coffee for the specialty market. So, with the blessing of his grandfather and with help from his uncle, he used the farm to experiment with varietals and processing methods to see what might improve cup quality. This coffee is the result of those experiments. It's dangerous to do something like this, so the lots are small – but they're large enough that this could have caused financial hardship if something had gone wrong. The lucky thing is that, in the cup, this gamble has really paid off.

This coffee is a naturally processed lot of Red Bourbon that I've been holding onto for a special occasion, #SSSSS = perfect don't you think?! Super excited to share it with you : )

In the cup this reminds me of the classic British pudding, Spotted Dick! It starts with a sponge pudding sweetness joined by juicy raisins soaked in rum. As it comes to the end, there's a lovely hit of sweet allspice.
