Can't be bothered to type a big long email about coffee right now, it's the last one y'know? It's been a long year, last one out turn off the lights & make sure the door's shut?

J/K my friends, j/k. I wouldn't do that to you! But what I say is true, this is the end, the 12th and final bag of #SSSSS was roasted today and is now in the hands of Royal Mail heading towards you! Little early this month to make sure they get to you in good time, thought the postal system may break a little with Black Friday (sigh) and you'll all be expecting this coffee to arrive Tuesday so roast + post today will hopefully make sure that's the longest it'll take, fingers crossed with you super soon.

So for the FINAL TIME we jump aboard the good ship #SSSSS for a tasty and delicious coffee that money can't buy, did buy you this coffee but if you weren't a super cool #SSSSS subscriber you wouldn't be getting any, you know what I mean!

To Guatemala we go to see Alex Illescas at Finca Ciudad Vieja.

Finca Ciudad Vieja is located in a region well known for some of the most interesting coffees and also some of the most renowned coffees in Guatemala, Antigua.

It's grown by Alex Illescas, on his his grandfather's farm. His grandfather has owned the farm for just over 50 years, working the land and selling the cherry along as a commodity coffee as they have no mill with which to process their own coffee. The farm is located at 1,400 meters above sea level in the Guatemalan department of Sacatepéquez.

Alex had an idea that he wants to produce amazing, interesting, and challenging coffee for the specialty market. So with the blessing of his grandfather and help from his uncle, he used the farm to experiment with varietals and processing methods to see what might improve cup quality.

When I visited Alex you could see how excited he was, and how proud he was about the coffee. All the time I was there I was praying the coffee would be as good as the story, and I'm pleased to report, it's even better.

Aaaaaaaaand for the last time, what does it taste like Steve?

In the cup this is all mashed up banana - but a sweet, soft, bruised and brown one. There's a boozy edge to it, before taking a turn into dried fruit on the aftertaste - raisins, sultanas and yes, those little bits of dried banana too.
