Ethiopia Adola Natural 2019

Bean name Ethiopia Adola Natural 2019
Country Ethiopia
Region Guji, Oromia
Other info Varietal: Indigenous wild

South-East of the famous town of Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia is the Guji region. In the north of this region, about 80 KM directly east of Yirgacheffe town, is the woreda (district) of Adola.

It’s here, at around 2,100 metres above sea level, that we find the Adola washing station, which is owned by Israel Degfa. The coffee cherries come from small holders throughout the local area and are processed as both Washed and Natural lots.

We’re firm fans of Israel’s work. We've bought from his Ana Sora and Mokanisa Bulega washing stations in previous years, so we were very happy to be able to share another amazing lot with you all. This one is a Natural process and really stood out to us on the cupping table.

Washing stations like Adola process huge amounts of coffee cherries from local growers, so the key to finding the best ones is to taste them all. And what's the key to producing more lots that taste great? Why, it's attention to detail and good practices at the washing station.

This lot is a great example of why Adola has managed to increase the amount of high grade lots it's producing, and you can see why in the cup. It's super clean and fresh, without any trace of the dirty or earthy flavours that are sure signs of a lack of care in processing.

Beyond being a beautifully clean Natural lot, what can you expect from this coffee?

It's all about mixed berries in the cup – blueberries and raspberries all drenched in cream. Behind that there's a delicate floral edge, and on the finish there's a grating of orange zest.
