Hello my friends, a very warm welcome to #SSSSS 2021! We're back for another year of amazing, interesting and delicious coffees that only you lucky lot will get to try - thanks so very much for joining me on this caffeinated adventure!

For those of you who’ve been in on #SSSSS before, welcome back : ) you know the drill by now! For those of you who are new - how’d you find out?! Aren’t we being sneaky enough?! Welcome, welcome, welcome to the first of your 12 very special Super Secret Stash coffees.

If you're 1 of the newer people, here’s how it goes. Each month, I send an email to let you know your coffee is on the way - expect it on or just before the 1st of each month. This first bag is a strange one and is arriving a little later in the month due to it being the first of the year, but the normal sending schedule starts properly with your next bag which will be sent out towards the end of January (currently thinking 28/1).

All #SSSSS coffees are sent out Royal Mail First Class in the UK and Royal Mail International Standard for all you international subscribers. If your coffee doesn't turn up in good time (normally around 1-2 working days for UK deliveries and 5-7 working days for international deliveries) or you need to change your address or anything like that, please send us an e-mail to orders@hasbean.co.uk and someone will swoop in and fix things in a flash.

I think there's no better way to start off the new year than with a good friend and this month’s coffee comes from one of Hasbean’s closest and oldest friends - Alejandro Martinez of Finca Argentina in El Salvador. Ale’s been to visit us here in the UK before and we of course wined and dined him with a curry and a pint at our local - way back when that kind of thing was still possible. He also spent time learning about roasting and helping us move around bags of coffee and such - we really did give him the glamorous treatment!!

Finca Argentina first came through our door (very literally) many years ago with some samples which arrived blind. It was just a lucky moment of chance as they sought to find a speciality coffee roaster who could pay a fair price for their coffees and we were looking for more amazing coffees from El Salvador. What’s grown from there has been amazing - we’ve bought nearly all the production of the farm ever since. In fact, we’re already talking to Ale about the next crop of coffee! Have a look at these photos he sent - isn’t it looking great?!

But back to the coffee we already have! If you were along for the #SSSSS ride in 2020, you’ll remember our November coffee was the Washed Petites from the farm - the smaller beans which would usually go to a local commodity market, but which we think are well worth saving from that fate. This month’s lot is their partner - also petite in size, but this time Naturally processed. Carefully dried in their fruit, these beans have developed some really unique flavours.

We often get asked about coffee processing and what the different terms mean, because of this we have some handy-dandy guides and videos on our website so if you'd like to find out a little bit more about natural processing, please head on over to check it out here. You can also see all the other naturally processed coffees we're currently roasting and offering on our website here.

The full-sized Naturally processed Bourbon this year (already sold out!) tasted of Cocoa Nibs, Fig and Almond, so how do the petites stack up?

Well, the fruit flavour is there, but it’s more dried fruits - think sultanas and dried apple pieces. There's also still a darker flavour which lingers on the finish, but rather than cocoa nibs it reminds me of liquorice. Overall, it’s a little less rounded and balanced than it’s full-sized companion, but is a bit more unusual too which is why I thought it would be perfect to start #SSSSS 2021.
