Costa Rica Finca Bella Vista 2010-2011

Bean name Costa Rica Finca Bella Vista 2010-2011
Country Costa Rica
Region Los Santos (Tarrazú)
Other info Caturra and Catuaí Varietals

Finca Bella Vista is located at an altitude of 1,600 metres in the Tarrazú region. The rich volcanic soil and high-altitude combine to provide a really interesting coffee.

There was a time when coffees from the Tarrazú region would fetch a high price on just the name alone. A super interesting coffee, but the quality of the past ten years or so has seen the coffee plummet, whilst other regions (I'm thinking Naranjo as one stand out) have raised their game. This particular coffee from Tarrazú, like some others we have seen in the past couple of years, seems to be bucking the general trend.

The farm covers a total area of 15 hectares and has been in the same family for the past four generations. Today, it is managed by Don Vidal Badilla Arias and his sons, Don Alexis and Freddy. The harvest takes place during the months of December and January and average annual production is currently around 550 fanegas (1 fanega = 1 quintal i.e. 46kg green coffee). So a total of 350-400 sacks or 25 tonnes.

In the cup expect chocolate, with a tinned peaches acidity, dried apricots and a lovely smooth long finish.
