Colombia Finca Vega Grande Huila 2013

Bean name Colombia Finca Vega Grande Huila 2013
Country Colombia
Region Suaza Region, Dept of Huila
Other info Varietal: Caturra

Well this was a bit of a trip down memory lane. I bought this mans coffee back in 2005 from the cup of excellence. After that I heard no more about it. Then on a cupping table in Bogota, something jumped all over my taste buds, only to find it was this coffee. It is thought around 350,000 families are dependant on coffee growing in Colombia, so I liek the odds that we found each other again.

From the Suaza region of the department of Huila, the total farm size is 5 hectors with three dedicated to coffee growing. Jose lives on the farm with his wife Fernanda Hurtado and his two children.

The farm has a low altitude for Colombia of 1200 meters above sea level, but the varietal of Caturra does not seem to suffer with one of the most amazing cup profiles I have tasted. Whilst in Bogota tasting I cupped over 130 cups, and this was by far my favourite.

The down side was that exporter we were working with has a rule that the better you score it, the more you have to pay. That pushed this coffee into a new price bracket. But when there are only two bags i think its more than worth it.

In the cup expect the most lively of acidity, citrus, oranges with some green apple, but the sweetness is divine with honeydew melon and a finish of peaches. This is one of the most special coffees I have found in a very long time and worthy of the special price.

Roasting Information:
This is a medium, so as not to kill the complexity.
