||Colombia Finca El Vergel Washed Caturra 2013
||Southern Colombian state of Tolima, small town of El Vergel
This is a coffee we first stocked last year, and we are very pleased to see it back for its second year. It was initially selected from my trip to Colombia in September 2012. All of these coffees were bought on the cupping table on their taste and cup profile alone, and the information about them was built up afterwards. The interesting part about this coffee is that we also have a coffee from one of his the producer's sons this year: a father/son taste-off is on the cards.
The coffee is grown in the heart of the department of Tolima, located in the Andean region in the center-west of the country. It can be found to the north of the more famous coffees (at least in Has Bean coffee land), which are found in the department of Huila.
This farm is in the Los Nevados national park. The closest town to it is El Vergel, and the area sits at an altitude of 1750 metres above sea level.
Owned by Jose a Cruz and his wife Silvia and their 5 children, this farm covers just 7 hectares, which is quite big for A Colombian farm but quite small in the grand scheme of things.
In the cup this starts off with a silky mouthfeel, but it develops into a crisper cup with an acidity I can only liken to a white wine. This white grape also has hints of melon and a light crisp cider. Sharp and clean aftertaste.
