We bought this cup straight from the cupping table, and sometimes that means we don't know much about it. This is a specially selected micro lot of coffee from the Tarqui region of Columbia. It comes from a small growers' cooperative with only 62 members (this lot was made by 9 of them); their average farm size is only 3 hectares, and collectively they produce approximately 800 bags of coffee per year. So this is an example of smallholders working together to produce amazing coffee.

This lot was put together by Jose Maria Criollo T, Orlando Trujillo, Alirio Suarea Suarez, Belisario Munoz, Ruboan cuellar, Luis Einer Criollo, Milsiades Trujillo, Claudio Nelson Trujillo,Rigoberto Barrera; all of them are part of this cooperative. Tarqui is in Huila, which is one of 32 departments in Colombia, and is well known for its amazing typography and quality of coffee and producers. Tarqui is just to the north of Oporpa and Pitalito, and shares the same mountain range.

The varietals are Caturra and Colombia. They are fully washed, and grown at altitudes from 1600 metres to 2000 metres.

In the cup expect dark chocolate, with cocoa hints that have a sticky mouthfeel. It then turns in to a delicious fleshy orange skin acidy, which just keeps going.
