Brazilian Fazenda Bonfim

Bean name Brazilian Fazenda Bonfim
Country Brazil
Region Bahia
Other info Catuaí

This winning coffee comes from small farm in Piatãb in the State of Bahia scored 85.93 in the 2004 Brazilian cup of excellence awards attaining the position of 24. Don't let this put you off, as it is a very special coffee that's worked its way through many cupping tables to attain the result it did. In the cup there is fantastically full with lemon overtones with a sweet edge with good acidity.

The farm covers a total area of 13,5 hectares with a coffee growing area of 10 hectares. Varity type is Catuaí and is a pulped natural. The international jury gave it 85.93, and I think one thing to keep in mind when looking at cup of excellence scores is just what they are comparing it against. Now as an international judge you are told to not compare the table and to judge the coffee's on their own. But human nature is to compare and your calibration at origin is way different to cupping at home. It's the exception to find bad coffee, where at home it's the norm. This coffee is far better than the score it's got and that's why mine is different to theirs.
