||Bolivia Finca Juan Huanca Illimani Washed 2015
||Varietals: Caturra & Catuai
We welcome a new coffee for Has Bean from a producer from the Caranarvi region of Yungas. His name is Juan Huanca and he lives in the Illimani canton where many amazing coffees have come from.
Juan is a member of the infamous Vilca family, and in fact Juan helps David by bringing his cherry to the mill in Caranarvi.
Juan has been a coffee producer for 10 years now and moved to the area the same time as his uncle, and has been slowly honing his craft. We have seen his coffee before in cuppings, and have wanted to buy it because of the link between the family and the story, but the quality has not been quite there. This year we were excited to see a blind sample that was delicious and it was this one, the quality matches the story.
A small tiny micro lot, this won’t be around for long. The problems we have seen with supply and growers stopping growing coffee in Bolivia, I’m surprised we can find a small new interesting lot like this, and I think this comes down to our trip this year so early in the season and our amazing exporters.
In the cup expect lovely milk chocolate, a silky smooth mouthfeel and gentle lychee acidity that finishes with delicious creamy walnut.
