Blake Espresso Blend 2014 Mk5

Bean name Blake Espresso Blend 2014 Mk5
Other info Blend - see description for bean content

Following on from the revamped Jailbreak and Kicker espresso blends, it was time to turn our attention to the Toba espresso blend that we stocked for so long.

Toba was very much a throwback to a darker style of blend; one that's designed to work well in milk, and have bolder/earthier flavours in a more traditional way. But its name - Toba - limited the blending options, as Toba is a lake in Indonesia. It also became stuck in a bit of a rut.

We are aware that there are a huge amount of people who want something a little more traditional than Jailbreak or Kicker, for instance, though it doesn't mean the blend has to be any less tasty or adventurous. Shaking off the Toba name has meant we can develop the blend to allow a new twist on a traditional foundation, resulting in something worthy of its place in the new coffee world. For this reason, it was actually close to being called Anachronism.

So here is Blake; a merging of an old school approach to producing blends that punch through milk and deliver you a classic tasting espresso with a progressive twist of educated sourcing, sensitive roasting, and some funky natural flavours.

50% Indonesia Sulawesi Tana Toraja A
30% Guatemala San Sebastian Bourbon Natural
20% Brazil Inglaterra Natural

I know that I'm going to get asked "Why Blake?" Well, it's my old school, and this is an old school blend but with a new twist. That simple.

This needs to be roasted well into second crack, with good healthy amounts of oil showing, otherwise it lacks the grunt this blend needs.
