||Nicaragua Finca Los Altos Washed Red Catuai 2017
||Municipality: Laguna Verde, Department: Jinotega
||Varietal: Red Catuai
Finca Los Altos is located near the city of Matagalpa, just 34 KM from the provincial capital, in the community of Los Altos de Aranjuez. It has belonged to the Palta Society for five years. It has an area of 234 manzanas (hectares), of which 139 are planted with coffee. Eighty-eight manzanas are currently producing coffee, and fifty-one manzanas are under development. Currently the farm is producing Pacas, Catuaí and Caturra coffee.
The property was acquired five years ago and is part of the Fincas Mierisch family, which has been producing coffee since 1908. In addition to the family (father and four children work on the farm), there are 35 permanent jobs and 130 temporary jobs on the farm.
Finca Los Altos benefits from the experience of the family that run it, and from their great attention to detail when it comes to agronomic management, which includes a good environment for all the workers. Equal attention is given to the dry milling, processing and quality control on the farm. The water sources on the farm are well maintained and are all located on the land.
In the cup there's sweet buttery shortbread accompanied by a soft but heavy mouthfeel, the acidity of lime and then, on the finish, black tea.
