||Malawi Ngapani Washed SL28 2018
This lot was bought at auction having achieved 4th place in the Malawi Taste of Harvest competition.
Coffee production in Malawi comes partially from Cooperatives (mostly in the North and West of the country) and partially from large Estates, of which only 5 remain (and mostly in the South and East).
This lot is from the Ngapani Estate in the East of the country, near to Mangochi and the southern tip of Lake Malawi. The Estate is owned by Sable Farming who are the largest of the remaining coffee Estates in Malawi - the combined size of Ngapani along with their Chipale Estate is 574 Hectares of coffee production.
Whilst the estate grows a range of different varietals, the one they entered into the Taste of Harvest competition was SL28 - a Bourbon/Ethiopian hybrid usually found in Kenya. The coffee was processed in the Washed method and dried on raised beds.
In the cup expect a clean satsuma acidity, with hints of white grape mixed in. There's a fruit sweetness with a delicate body and a sparkling quality that makes this super refreshing.
