Description

Yet another of our amazing coffees from Bolivia this year. This time its from the the colony of San Jose in the North Yungas region near to the familiar town of Caranarvi. This small town has acted as the hub for some of the most amazing coffees we have ever found, this years coffee have been nothing short of amazing.

The farm we are looking at here is located to the north of the town winding up a steep valley road. The colony of San Jose is very small inhabited by only 12 families. One of the families is that of Constancio Aruqipa and his wife (Ilda Mamani de Aruquipa), and their 5 children, who grow this coffee together.

The altitude is around 1500 metres which is fairly low for Bolivia, but I think is a lot of the reason behind this diverse cup. Caranarvi continues to show that it has a wide range of micro climates and delivers as diverse a cup as a whole country or even continent.

Constancio only purchased this virgin plot of land in 2008 along with a small plantation of 20 year old Caturra. The new land involved planting 21,000 plants, and 2 years ago was the first real, full, production from these new plants. Although this is a new farm, Constancio has worked on other farms as a manager. He has always wanted wanted to own his own land and work closely with his family.

In the cup this is super interesting, with wild citrus notes and a hint of fizzy fresh lemonade mixed with those old refresher sweets that tingled on the tongue. Not for the faint hearted or those that don't love bright coffees.

Roasting Information:
If you hear the first pops of second crack it's time to stop. This is a medium to medium dark roast so as not to kill the sweetness.
